Single Malts

The whisky ‘map’ divides
Scotland into a number of regions where the general characteristics of
each of the distilled whiskies is similar. Fine Scotch whiskies are
distilled in each of these regions:-
· Highland
· Speyside
· Islay
· Campbeltown
· Lowland |
| These are the
major divisions though there are sub divisions or categories. Look
at all the Single malts. Because the single malt is the
produce of a distillery then the brand will be the distillery name -
e.g. Glenfiddich |
Blended Whisky
 |
Blended whiskies are - as the
name suggests - a blend of 2 or more whiskies. The blend may
include single malts. The naming of the a blended whisky assumes a
brand in it's own name because the blend is probably the whiskies from
several distilleries. Some of the blends are in themselves fine
whiskies - example they may only be blended from several whiskies which
have each matured for 12 years. Chivas Regal is a well known blended
fine Scotch Whisky. |
